Whether or not you think Harold Camping has gotten it right this time, many people are gearing up for the rapture on October 21, 2011. In it's simplest terms, the rapture is the return of Christ and the judgement of humanity when those who believe will be taken to heaven and the non-believers left behind, or worse. Previously predicted dates for the Rapture:
- William Miller, a Baptist preacher credited with creating the Adventism movementpredicted that the rapture would occur sometime between 1843 and 1844.
- Jovovah's Witnesses have predicted the date as 1914, 1918, 1925 and 1948
- Charles "Chuck" Smith, founder of the Calvary Chapel movement, predicted the Rapture would happen by 1981.
- Former NASA engineer Edgar C. Whisenant claimed that it would take place in 1988, and that if it didn't then it was because the Bible was wrong. When Rapture didn't occur, he went on to predict 1989, 1993, and 1994. Pastor John Hinkle and radio evangelist Harold Camping also predicted dates in 1994 (bandwagon - on - jump??)
- A Korean group, "Mission for the Coming Days", predicted 1992 as being the year of Rapture.
- Harold Egbert Camping has previously predicted 1988 and 1994, prior to his May 21st 2011 prediction stating later that an invisible judgement took place and that the ACTUAL Rapture will occur on October 21, 2011.
- Despite his scientific background, Sir Isaac Newton was also a theologian and he predicted that the Rapture or Apocalypse could happen no sooner than 2060.
- We wonder who will come up with the next prediction and when it will be??
